For cats with access to out doors, exercise and boredom are very minimal, although other health issues are higher.

i.e. traffic, being stolen, dogs, unsocial behaviour.

Indoor cat/s that have a safe enclosed garden, will benefit from some sort of stimulation.

Cats are not pack animals like dogs, although will happily live together.  Over the centuries us humans have

allowed cats into our homes and they have conformed to gain what they wanted,  food, warmth & comfort,

and usually  a willing slave/owner !

Most cats needs physical and mental stimulation.  Apart from your cat getting some exercise it crates a bond between cat and owner.  Not just the "cupboard love "  as so many owners  end up being.

Our cats are all very individual.  Some breeds are more active then others, our dear domestic cats all have their own genetic makeup, As  a owners, you will know which category your cats fit into.

The same being so of overweight cats.  Again some pedigree cats are very sleek and active where others are

larger framed but need little excise.  But need mental activity to stop boredom and destroying his

surrounding i.e. .... your home!

Neutered cats tend to gain weight more easily then entire cats. This is because when a cat is neutered, the metabolic rate decreases by approx 20 % so neutered cats require less food to maintain body condition.  Cats with decreased activity or restricted opportunities for exercise are at greater risk of weight gain..

Entire males have a tendency to roam.  Neutering reduces the desire to roam or physical activity  undertaken by the cat declines. Cats are carnivores, meat is their natural diet.  Left to their own devices small mammals, would be top of their menu. High in protein and low in carbohydrates.  Not to mention the chase, play and kill, which is the exercise & adrenalin part. This helps cats to loose fat whilst maintaining lean body mass/muscle.

The Cat Wheel can assist your cat to become physically fit as well as  having a good  time. Cats are predators and a feathered wand is fair game in any cat language.

Held just above the wheel and within view, this will be enough to gain your cat's confident to  climb in onto the wheel platform and catch/chase  that  offending mouth watering feathers on the  wand.

Start off with just a couple of turns of the wheel, and increase on a daily basic. Over a period of time  you can build up to  5 minutes or more several times a day, Quite often you will find your cat will accept the wheel as part of his everyday routine and pop in for a jog with out your input.
